Peru, the world’s third-largest copper producer, has rejected an environmental study for a controversial copper mining project. Local farmers are up in arms over concerns about the surrounding area’s water supplies, Reuters reports.

Meanwhile, a new study links heavy rains to the cholera outbreak in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

China
China plans to launch carbon emissions trading schemes in Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai and Tianjin, as well as the provinces of Hubei and Guangdong, in order to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced per unit of GDP by 40-45 percent by the end of 2020, according to Reuters.
