The Rockefeller Foundation is now accepting nominations for innovators working to better the lives of the world’s poor and vulnerable. Circle of Blue received the award in 2012 for our innovative journalism model.

This year, the Rockefeller Foundation announced it will open award nominations to members of the general public, who can submit entries for themselves or others. The Foundation will then feature a select group of nominees on its website: two will be granted 2013 Next Century Innovation Awards and a third will be selected later — based in part on a public vote — from a group of three finalists.

On the nomination site, the Rockefeller Foundation features past winners of the $US 100,000 award, including a profile of Circle of Blue.

“Circle of Blue’s non-advocacy, on-the-ground reportage makes complex issues understandable and provides trusted information and data that connects local stories to global trends.”

–Rockefeller Foundation

Circle of Blue won the 2012 Centennial Innovation Award for what Rockefeller called “a breakthrough model of front-line reporting, data collection, design, and convening,” which produced the influential Choke Point: U.S. and Choke Point: China reports. Now we’re working on Choke Point: India, so stay tuned in the coming months for more on that.

(Read on-the-ground reports of India from my colleague Keith Schneider, Circle of Blue’s senior editor, here, here, and here.)

Nominate an innovator whose work is “improving the lot of poor and vulnerable people” here. And check out our Action Figure series, which we began last summer when we received our Innovation Award as a way of honoring other global innovators working in water, food, and energy.

Do you plan to nominate an individual or organization for the Rockefeller Award? Do you know someone who should be on our Action Figure list? Let me know by emailing circleofblue.org/contact, sending me a Tweet to @APMaddocks, or posting in the comments below.
