Water rushes downstream from Egypt’s Aswan High Dam. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Egyptian government constructed the Aswan High Dam 870 kilometers upstream from Cairo along the Nile River. The dam manages floods, allocates water for irrigation, and has a generating capacity of roughly 2,000 megawatts of electricity.
