Circle of Blue editorial intern Lydia Belanger is dabbling around the newsdesk.
I’m in the middle of my sixth week with Circle of Blue, and a lot has happened since I first started. Since my daily Rio+20 reporting wrapped up — including a summary post — I’ve been collaborating with the other interns to create our new Action Figure series. Circle of Blue director J. Carl Ganter recently received the Rockefeller Foundation’s Centennial Innovation Award, and, as a result of his distinction, we have begun identifying other innovators in the water, food, and energy fields from around the globe.
Fellow editorial intern Aubrey Blanche (otherwise known as Aubrey2) and I are responsible for contacting all sources, conducting and transcribing all interviews, and writing the bio profiles. Design interns Alec Aja and Amanda Northrop are making creative banners for each Action Figure, and data intern Varun Mangla created a database that will help create a network of the Action Figures that we profile.
Also new for me: this Thursday will be my first time posting for The Stream, Circle of Blue’s daily newsletter, which I will be contributing to more and more as time goes on, but I can’t believe I only have about another month left for my internship.
If you know of someone who is changing the world with their stories or innovations related to water, food, and energy, nominate them as an Action Figure by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, @circleofblue with the #actionfigure hashtag, or comment below.
