Water is stored in reservoirs outside of Urumqi. To serve the demand, Urumqi operates 15 water treatment plants. capable of providing 1.2 million cubic meters of water daily in the summer and 600,000 cubic meters daily in the winter. Urumqi also operates 10 wastewater treatment plants, three of which manage purification equipment that recycles wastewater for use in industry, to cool boilers, and to water the city’s gardens.
